Built in 1902, but rebuilt four years later after it had been burnt down. It was a walled compound of palaces in Seoul that was inhabited by members of Korea's royal family during the Joseon monarchy until the annexation of Korea by Japan in 1910.

Goldfinches are little birds often spotted in religious paintings, especially the ones representing the Virgin Mary and the baby Jesus. The religious symbolism is cast aside here, and replaced by a naive yet charming realism in this mountain-view. However, a gruesome scene is about to take place: the cat, all quivering whiskers, is watching the innocent birds- undoubtedly thinking about his next snack.

In the sculpture gallery of the Felix Meritis Society, plaster casts of sculptures from Roman museums and Musee Napoleon in Paris were exhibited against pale blue walls. De Lelie, a member of the society, portrayed himself from the back amidst the commissioners and directors of the society's departments.
RMDYEATJ–A Gathering of Amateurs for an Art Viewing by Cornelius Troost (1696-1750) black chalk, grey and black wash, heightened with white, on blue paper, c1740. The collecting of drawings became fashionable during the 18th century. They were kept as loose sheets in albums and portfolios. This pursuit led to the founding of small associations, whose members would meet at one another's homes to study and admire their collections. Troost has here depicted such a gathering. The albums with the drawings and prints were stored in the art cabinet against the back wall.
RMDYEAT5–The Art Gallery of Jan Gildemeester Jansz by Adriaan de Lelie (1755-1820) oil on panel, 1794-1820) oil on panel, 1794-1795. In 1792. the merchant Gildemeester converted two large rooms in his house on Amsterdam's Herengracht into a picture gallery. Here we see that the walls are densely hung with paintings in gilded frames. Gildemeester stands in the middle of the front room conversing with one of his guests. The visitors are studying the famous works, including a Rembrandt, visible above Gildemeester's head.
