A German horseman's war hammer, circa 1570, Short, robust fluke, rectangular socket with hammer head at back, belt clasp inserted at side. Solid iron haft of diamond section. Round guard plate with two piercings for the lanyard. Grip with original yellow velvet cover (heavily worn) and finery of brocade fringes. Riveted, blossom shaped pommel plate.
