Joachim Ludwig's opera is based on the famous Japanese legend ''Rashomon'' and will bear the same title. Several concert tours in the far East inspired him to use an oriental theme, and the opera whose world premiere will take place in Augsburg on 23rd August 1972, will be staged with modern lighting effects and use ''flash backs'' in order to remain as faithful as possible to the screen-play on which the libretto is based.
