The study of a skull that was killed in the earthquake of 24th August AD 79 when lava was poured on to the town by erupting Vesuvious above it. The town began excavations in 1709, it was buried under volcanical material 12 to 25 metres deep. Reseach study has been intermittent the most interesting was between 1820 and 1835 and carries on today when money permits.
