Remembrance Sunday, Nov 11th, Twickenham War Memorial, Like every small village and big city throughout the United Kingdom of Great Britain (as it was then known) & Ireland, stops for two minutes silence to remember the dead of the two world wars. In the first world war (1914 - 1918) more than 9.000.000 combatants were killed and in the second countless millions, this ceremony gives the living an opportunity for remembering their dead ones by service at a cenotaph, or an empty tomb and by laying wreaths the traditional means of signalling high honours in ancient Greece and Rome.
