Ahornboden (Great and Small Ahornboden) is a small area in the Karwendel Mountains on the Rißbach stream close to lake Achensee. Part of a Tyrolean/ Bavarian landscape and conservation area (of which approx. 720 sq. km have belonged to Tyrol in Austria since 1928). This sparsely populated and restricted forest area in the northern Alps is characterised by its old maple (Ahorn) groves. Autumn colours are usually stupendous.
