Illustration by Frederick Gilbert (1827-1902) from Cassell's illustrated history of England published circa 1896. Monmouth was the subject of a coronation in Taunton on 20 June 1685, outside the White Hart Inn. The Taunton Corporation was forced to witness the event at sword point.
