This photo has been stitched together in order to show a wide swath of the Historic Center of downtown Quito. The picture was taken from one of the front towers of the Basilica del Voto Nacional and looks towards the famous bread loaf shaped hill, the Panecillo, and its famous statue, the Virgin of the Apocalypse. Quito is a city that is only a few kilometers wide but is tens of kilometers long and this picture demonstrates how the city is creeping up the hillsides that have formally contained growth.
